Funding Available for Active-Duty Military, Veterans and First Responders

Webster University offers several scholarship opportunities for active-duty Service members, military veterans and first responders. Please note that eligible Service members may also receive Tuition Assistance (TA) funds as a unique, distinct source of financial aid available (verification required). TA would be a first payer before any awarded scholarships. Please consult your base education officials for more information.

Verification of Status

U.S. military affiliated and first responder students must verify their status to receive tuition rates and scholarships for these groups. Students may present their ID at any local campus. Or verification can be submitted via email to advising@webster.edu.

Accepted verification includes:

  • Active Duty Military: Obtain documentation by submitting a request for documentation from the Service-Members Civil Relief Act (SCRA) website.
  • National Guard: Copy of orders or letter from commanding officer.
  • Military Reserve: Copy of orders or letter from commanding officer.
  • Civil Service Employees: Visit the Civilian Employment Verification page to learn how to use the MyBiz+ tool for verifying employment.
  • Military Dependents: Copy of DEERS ID.
  • Federal Contract Workers: Proof of employment in the form of an employer letter or pay stub.
  • First Responders: Copy of ID.
  • National Military Family Association (NMFA): Students identifying as NMFA eligible do need to provide documentation. Webster University will verify eligibility directly with NMFA. Students who are not a member of NMFA, but need further information on eligibility may visit militaryfamily.org or contact scholarships@militaryfamily.org.
  • Children of Fallen Patriots/Folds of Honor: Please submit inquiry to the Office of Military Affairs at Webster University: oma@webster.edu

Please note that Webster University cannot accept copies of U.S. government identification. Photocopying U.S. government identification is a violation of Title 18, U.S. Code, Part I, Chapter 33, Section 701 and is punishable by fine and/or imprisonment. It is acceptable to provide military or government ID to commercial establishments but they cannot copy or duplicate it in any way. Read more about military ID card limitations.

On acceptance to the University, students normally schedule an appointment with an academic advisor to discuss their academic plans and to register for their first classes.

Military Tuition Assistance (TA)

Per DoD MOU, paragraph 4.e.(2)-(3), “DoD personnel are entitled to consideration for all forms of financial aid that educational institutions make available to students at their home campus. Educational institution financial aid officers will provide information and application processes for Title IV student aid programs, scholarships, fellowships, grants, loans, etc., to DoD Tuition Assistance (TA) recipients … [and that] Service members identified as eligible DoD TA recipients … will have their TA benefits applied to their educational institution’s account prior to the application of their Pell Grant funds to their account."

Active-Duty, Reserve and Guard Process and Timeline

Military students are often eligible for tuition assistance (TA) provided by their service. To determine eligibility, please consult your military education officials, who must approve all TA requests prior to the start date of the course. Eligible students must enroll for courses directly with their Academic Institution after approval is given by the military education officials. Air Force and Army members need to apply for TA no earlier than 60 days prior and must enter information into their service TA application system no later than 7 days prior to the course start date. Please note if the incorrect class start date is chosen for the TA, it will not be paid, and the student will be responsible for the cost of the class. Navy members need to start their application for TA 30 days prior to the term start date. Marine Corp members need to start their application 60 days prior to the term start date.

  • Army: members must apply for TA using the Army’s automated TA process. Visit Army Ignited Student Portal (requires login).
  • Army National Guard: members on federal active-duty orders deployed under U.S. Code, Title 10, are eligible for Tuition Assistance (TA). Members on state active duty (Title 32) are not eligible for TA. Check with your state’s education services officer for Title 32 funding. Visit Army National Guard/Education.
  • Army Reserve National Guard: members have alternative funding and may use Army National Guard Federal Assistance (FTA). How to apply for federal assistance.
  • Navy: members need to contact their Navy College Office or the Virtual Education Center (VEC) to educational counseling either in person, virtually, by phone or email. Each TA application must be approved by their command prior to being forwarded to the VEC. Visit Navy College Program.
  • Air Force: members must apply for Military Tuition Assistance (MilTA) online using the Air Force Virtual Education Center. Visit Air Force Virtual Education Center (requires login).
  • Air National Guard: on Title 10 orders are eligible for MilTA. Activated Reserve and Guard Service members on Title 10 or Title 32, Section 502f orders must supply a copy of orders to their servicing Education Center to verify activated time and meet all eligibility requirements to receive MilTA. www.my.af.mil (requires login).
  • Marine Corps: members must contact their Virtual Education Center (VEC) to receive educational counseling either in person or by phone. Each TA application must have command approval prior to being forwarded to the VEC.  Visit Marines Voluntary Education Program.
  • Coast Guard: members must have a complete TA application (degree plan uploaded, command approved) and it must be received by Education and Training Quota Management Command (ETQC) no less than 14 days prior to the class start date, not including the date of submission to ETQC nor the class start date. Webster University Refund Policy

Webster University publishes a refund policy in its catalog. Refunds for affected Department of Defense Tuition Assistance students attending Webster University classes are dictated by our Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the DoD.

Loan Cohort Default Rate (CDR)

Webster Financial Aid Office discloses the current CDR to prospective students. To ensure compliance with DoD MOU, paragraph para 3.h3(3) it is published here as well. The latest Department of Education CDR has reported was for 2019. Webster’s CDR was 1.1%, in comparison to the national average of 2.3%.

DoE typically publishes the CDR each fall. Webster staff will review the latest CDR each Fall term and do an interim review each Spring term and make website updates as needed. If Webster’s CDR rises above the national average, Webster will also commence disclosure of that information and provide students with loan repayment data as required.
